Zenit Music Academy Brand Design

Zenit is a music academy in Madrid, which method takes advantage of the natural learning capacity, internalizing the contents not only from the cognitive level but also from the emotional and physical level, building comprehensive learning. For the creation of the symbol, the letter Z has been drawn using the zenith diagram as a reference. And to complement the visual identity, a color palette has been created where each color represents a note corresponding to each piano key, including black ones, to represent all possible chords, using colors in different graphic creatives, videos, or animations.

Zenit is an academy that also teaches piano improvisation classes. Improvising includes the development of creative processes and imagination, the analysis of the constitutive elements of the language itself, and the development of a technique that allows musical performance. In order to develop a more creative brand, and represent this creative process of improvising, a color palette has been created using a method that emulates “synesthesia”, in this case the association of each note on the piano with a specific color. Once the colors have been chosen, they have been edited to form a harmonious palette. To create the black notes on the keyboard, the adjacent colors have been combined with the “Hue” blending mode in Adobe Illustrator. In this way, all musical major and minor chords can be represented in all kinds of graphic applications, including videos and animations. Here we can see Amelie’s Waltz, a piece that is used in the Zenit academy in the first improvisation classes.

Although the palette is made up of a large number of colors, in order for the brand to be recognizable and memorable, 3 main colors have been chosen, which will predominate in most graphic applications, and they are the colors corresponding to the C Major chord ( C, E, G).

This one has been one of projects I have enjoyed the most, since I used to play as a teenager, but I had long since lost contact with the piano. To create the color palette I had to play each note with my eyes closed, and feel the sound … Which has made me play again, and return to the piano with great enthusiasm. Music has something magical, it connects directly with emotions and it is very difficult to explain why. That is why I have created this visual identity with such enthusiasm, and I hope it will be transmitted in all its applications.
