Willow & Blake Designs Carlotta’s Brand Identity Inspired by Italian Tradition and Modern Australia

A Mediterranean brand, served fresh.

Carlotta offers the Italo-Mediterranean experience through a distinctly Australian expression. Lucas Restaurants and restaurateur Chris Lucas came to us with the vision of a casual-yet-elevated restaurant that appeals to the wide clientele of the vibrant Canberra dining scene. We delivered the entire brand identity, including brand voice, visual identity, bespoke logo, art direction, and artwork for the venue’s walls. Our approach ensured that every element reflected the restaurant’s unique blend of Italian heritage and contemporary Australian culture.

The brand’s logo and wordmark feature exaggerated, idiosyncratic typography—bespoke in nature and inspired by hand-drawn signage from 1950s Italian cucina. The rounded, oversized letters subtly reference Italian dining staples—plates, mozzarella, and more—serving as a playful nod to the restaurant’s culinary roots while maintaining a modern edge. This visual language extends across all brand touchpoints, reinforcing Carlotta’s distinct personality and creating a memorable, cohesive experience for its patrons.

Italian Green was chosen as the signature colour, evoking traditional trattoria interiors while grounding Carlotta’s warm, inviting atmosphere. The green not only pays homage to classic Mediterranean aesthetics but also harmonises with the lush, organic tones of the Australian landscape. We curated and delivered the wall art for the space, creating an environment that feels layered, dynamic, and culturally resonant. The theme highlights the contrast between classic Mediterranean and contemporary Australian culture. Each work playfully develops Carlotta’s personality, merging its influences with a touch of humour and a modernist approach.
