How do you turn myth into motion? That’s the challenge Kraken Rum brought to us for their Roast Coffee Rum campaign. They needed a content piece that would not only capture the essence of their legendary brand but also seamlessly weave in the dark, rich notes of their Roast Coffee Rum. For a brand steeped in myth and mystery, this project needed to feel larger than life—and we knew exactly how to tell the story.

We set out to create an animation that didn’t just tell a story but pulled you deep into it. The concept was simple: bring the Kraken’s namesake to life in a way that feels as authentic as it is otherworldly. Picture this: our bottle and signature serve, marooned at sea, floating on a wrecked plank. Scattered around them, coffee beans spill from a burst barrel, creating a sensory-rich environment. But the story doesn’t end there. From the depths of the ocean, the Kraken emerges. It claims what’s left of the wreckage, pulling the rum bottle down into the abyss, reclaiming its rightful treasure.

To make this moment feel as vivid as possible, we leaned into complex simulations to ensure everything felt grounded in reality. Every element—from the gentle sway of the sea to the way the cocktail moves, and even the foam that sits atop it—was meticulously crafted to achieve photorealistic accuracy. The motion had to feel organic, giving the sense that this isn’t just an animation, but a moment captured from a living, breathing world.

One of our biggest challenges was getting the lighting just right. We needed to transport the viewer into this moonlit seascape while making sure the product stayed front and center, showcasing every detail of the bottle and packaging with absolute clarity. It’s a delicate balance: creating an immersive environment that feels dramatic and mysterious, but ensuring the product shines through with the kind of precision you’d expect from a packshot. The result was a hybrid lighting setup that captured the cinematic essence of a moonlit night at sea, while highlighting every essential brand detail with crystal-clear visibility.

Produced for two distinct markets, we adapted the animation to work across multiple ratios and formats, incorporating different artwork variations. This gave the Kraken team maximum flexibility to roll out the content across different platforms and regions, ensuring that the story could be told just as effectively wherever it played.
