Wama Foundation National Centre for Environmental Art Branding by Megan Perkins

Wama Foundation National Centre for Environmental Art Branding by Megan Perkins

Wama Foundation is Australia’s first environmental art precinct, more than a decade in the making and grounded in the ancient Gariwerd/Grampians landscape at Halls Gap. As the precinct moved toward opening, the organisation needed an identity capable of expressing its vision as a cultural destination connecting art, ecology and landscape. We created a brand system that could introduce Wama to national audiences with clarity, confidence and a deep sense of place.

The creative direction draws from the region’s mountainous topography, its weathered sandstone and new botanical growth. It carries the specificity of the region while offering a more universal resonance linked to the forms of natural processes. The visual language reflects the distinct character of Gariwerd/Grampians and broader patterns in Australian ecology, a celebration of regional Australia that is grounded, textural and inherently connected to place.

The system is designed to flex with context while retaining coherence across every touchpoint. The solution is distinctive and individual to Wama, designed for consistency, flexibility and longevity, able to be dialled up for family-friendly and garden-focused activity, and dialled down to support artworks and exhibitions. Distinctiveness is essential for regional destinations where audiences seek meaningful indoor experiences on rainy days.

Wama offers a model deeply connected to place and landscape. A clear, confident and long-term framework that supports Wama as it establishes itself as a new national destination for environmental art.
