Visual Identity Makeover of Balaton Sound Music Festival

For my assignment, I undertook the task of revamping the visual identity of the Balaton Sound music festival, a prominent outdoor music event situated annually on the southern shores of Lake Balaton in Zamárdi, Hungary.

Balaton Sound music festival is known for featuring a diverse lineup of electronic and dance music artists. My objective was to craft an identity that exuded playfulness, modernity, eye-catching aesthetics, and instant recognizability.

The inspiration for my concept emanated from the vibrant colors of the lake’s sunset and the ambiance of electronic music. The 3D bubbles incorporated into the design symbolize the essence of Lake Balaton’s water, where the festival’s laser lights create mesmerizing patterns. Additionally, a grid-like complementary element was introduced to establish a systematic structure, mirroring the ordered world of electronic music technology. I incorporated the original festival logo, simplifying it through a ligature, and opted for a black and white color scheme to achieve a striking contrast against the vibrant backgrounds.

The simplicity of the festival’s logo design is a key element that contributes to its effectiveness. By embracing a clean and straightforward aesthetic, the logo achieves a timeless quality that makes it easily recognizable and memorable. The minimalist approach allows for versatility, ensuring that the logo can be seamlessly integrated into various promotional materials and festival-related items.

Contrasting with the simplicity of the logo is the vibrant and colorful background that serves as a backdrop. The dynamic and lively colors of the background create a visually engaging environment, setting the stage for a festive and energetic atmosphere. This colorfulness adds a layer of excitement to the overall visual identity of the festival, capturing the essence of the diverse music genres and the lively spirit of the event.

The combination of a simple yet iconic logo against a colorful background creates a visually appealing contrast, drawing attention to the festival’s brand while evoking a sense of celebration and joy. This design choice not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of promotional materials but also contributes to the immersive and vibrant experience that attendees can expect at the festival venue.
