Veronique Duplain’s February Self-Portrait Project Explores Time, Identity, and Creative Discipline

Duplain, who has challenged herself for 11 years to take a self-portrait every day during the month of February. In a bilingual performance that honors her roots, she assumes the roles of artistic director, photographer, model, stylist, makeup artist, hairdresser, designer, and much more. Her goal is to share a 1,000 words in one image, a story told in a static scene.

An fun fact is that she started this project at the beginning of her photography adventure, making it fun to observe the tangible evolution of the artist over the years. Each year brings new challenges, techniques, and perspectives, showing her growth and adaptability. A significant part of the project’s value lies in its potential for future growth, especially considering that Vé has no intention of stopping the project. Her continuous innovation keeps the project fresh and engaging, ensuring its relevance in the art world. Where will she be in 10 more years?

The use of social media platforms to share her project makes it a unique event where people can closely observe Véronique’s daily life and what she goes through to successfully deliver 28 photos at the end of the month. Viewers will see behind-the-scenes clips of her and her small team working tirelessly to create visual narratives. These clips share stories, process evolution, tips and tricks, and lots of content that resonate with her followers, creating a new type of digital connection with her audience.

She stands out with her bright colored universe, her bold eclectic post-modern style, and her images and installations that tell elaborate narratives. Her approach is driven by a voluntary imposition of creative constraints that is the base for the development of new processes and the integration of available technologies such as robotics and 3D printing into her mediums of creative expression. This blend of traditional artistry and technology highlights her innovative spirit.

One click, an entire universe.

She makes it look easy.
