Patányi Winery – Visual Identity Inspired by the Badacsony Wine Region

Hungary’s smallest wine region, the Badacsony wine region, is nestled north of Lake Balaton and is characterized by its scenic volcanic hills and unique geological formations. For nearly a century, Lake Balaton has been the country’s most beloved vacation destination and a true paradise for sailing enthusiasts. The natural beauty of the area, along with its deep-rooted winemaking traditions, inspired the visual identity we created for Patányi Winery—an emerging estate committed to expressing the character of the region through its wines.

Our task was to develop a visual identity and logo that not only aligns with the winery’s values but also captures the essence of the landscape, the winemaking heritage, and the relaxed yet sophisticated “Balaton lifestyle.” The logo was inspired by one of Badacsony’s most iconic natural features: the basalt organ pipes formed by volcanic activity. These striking rock formations are not only a visual symbol of the region but also influence the terroir that gives the local wines their distinct minerality and flavor profile.

In designing the label series, we embraced a minimalistic, contemporary style that reflects the calm, elegant mood of Lake Balaton. Geometric shapes abstractly represent the vineyards, the rolling volcanic hills, and the many sailboats that dot the lake during the summer months. The result is a cohesive family of wine labels that balances local tradition with modern aesthetics.

During the design, an important aspect was that the image remained timeless, yet still felt fresh to younger wine consumers.

The visual identity has been well received by both locals and visitors, resonating especially with those who feel a strong connection to the region. It’s a design that not only enhances the winery’s brand but also celebrates the cultural and natural richness of Badacsony and the Balaton area.
