A story that bridges oceans, rooted in origins, love, territory, family, and tradition—this is the spirit of TUSSI, a premium extra virgin olive oil born in the sun-drenched hills of the Iblei Mountains, near Palazzolo Acreide, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Sicily. What began in 1916 as a family passion continues today across the Atlantic in Los Angeles, California, where Sicilian heritage meets contemporary international design.
After decades of gifting homemade oil in small tins prepared in the family kitchen, in 2023 the Peluso family decided to bottle their product and proudly export it to the U.S. market. From this decision emerged TUSSI (“too-see”), a brand carefully tailored for Los Angeles’s premium food scene. The name and concept are the result of deep market research, socio-linguistic studies, and a creative collaboration between Catania and LA—an inspiring transoceanic exchange of ideas, culture, and craftsmanship.
The brand identity draws heavily from Sicilian tradition and local storytelling, bringing to life the playful symbol of a winged donkey. This character is not a random invention: it recalls the true family tale of the only donkey that once powered the old olive mill inside a deconsecrated church, becoming the unsung hero of each harvest. By turning this humble animal into a whimsical icon with wings, TUSSI expresses the magic of Sicily and the ambition of a brand that dares to “fly.”
The visual design balances heritage with a cosmopolitan twist. The labels and packaging transform Sicily into a bottle and tin: the winged donkey illustrated as the central logo, surrounded by references to Mount Etna’s energy and the Mediterranean breeze. The vibrant color palette reflects both the freshness and spiciness of the oil itself, made from a blend of Tonda Iblea, Nocellara Etnea, Messinese, and Biancolilla olives.
TUSSI represents more than just olive oil—it is a cultural bridge between Sicily and California, between memory and innovation. It is the embodiment of a dream where tradition takes flight, heritage becomes design, and a simple bottle of oil tells a story of passion, family, and the timeless Mediterranean spirit.
