“This book was part of a Book Arts project for a university class. The theme of the project was to explore the use of “navigation” in the book format. For the project, I decided to create a layout of an apartment that can be opened and viewed like a book. It features the floorplan, which folds out as the book is opened, and four walls/dividers to establish the different rooms. I have decided to include the narrative of a crime scene to contrast the light-hearted and colourful illustration style I have used.It addresses the idea of “navigation” as the viewer does not necessarily have to navigate the scene like an ordinary codex format. By turning the book into a scene, I have created an alternative way to display a narrative.”
