In our everyday lives, time flows continuously, seemingly unbroken, while space extends limitlessly into the horizon. However, this abstract concept takes on a profound dimension when it encounters the unique prism of human perception within a specific moment and physical location. It’s in these intersections that time and space become tangible, dynamic forces, and it’s precisely these intersections that “Time and Space: Space-time Changing” seeks to illuminate. This imaginative exhibition catalog assembles the creative works of six installation artists who have not merely challenged, but utterly redefined our understanding of time and space. Their distinctive perspectives infuse these abstract notions with new life, offering fresh insights that transcend the conventional boundaries, clichés, and practical constraints that often define them.
As the designer entrusted with capturing the essence of this transformative journey, I embarked on a mission to develop an identity and visual language that would authentically express the intricate interplay of time and space inherent in the artists’ works. To maintain a cohesive and unified identity across these diverse talents, I chose to reimagine time and space itself through the lens of a rainbow gradient. This innovative approach infused these abstract concepts with vibrant, evocative energy, making them visually tangible. Furthermore, I carefully considered how to harmonize the unique works of these six artists within the catalog. To achieve this, I employed a singular color to outline their images, giving them a collective and harmonious appearance. This not only unified their diverse creations but also highlighted their individuality within the overarching theme.
The layout of the catalog, much like the works within the exhibition, mirrors the very concept of representing time and space. Each paragraph and image has been thoughtfully arranged, following its distinct system and rhythm, much like the artists themselves who have redefined our perception of time and space, offering a captivating and thought-provoking perspective on these fundamental elements that shape our existence.
