Thirty Two Music: A visual language rooted in sound
Thirty Two Music is a boutique music agency built on rhythm and precision. The company is highly respected in its field and has a long track record of delivering music that elevates client projects and brings creative work to life. Despite its reputation, the brand itself had never been fully developed. The goal was to create an identity that matched the craft, insight and expertise the team is known for.
We drew inspiration from player piano punch cards and step sequencers to develop a visual language built around dot matrices. This system reflects the harmony of rhythm, accuracy and structured creativity. It creates an immediate visual reference for what Thirty Two brings to every project and highlights the impact that the right music can have on a production.
To make their practice visible, we built a bespoke audio array tool in Processing. The tool uses audio inputs to generatively produce a dot matrix on a structured 32 x 4 grid. By running the studio’s sonic identity, brand film or any chosen audio through the system, we can generate a variety of patterns that form the backbone of the visual identity. The four rows represent parts of the audio spectrum, from high frequencies through to bass, while each of the thirty two columns maps to a bar of music. This creates a consistent yet expressive framework that mirrors the way the team constructs and interprets sound.
The design system extends into production across print and digital. Stationery is die cut with the logomark, echoing the references to music punch cards. In static promotional materials, each audio array reflects the specific soundtrack of the film it accompanies, giving every asset its own unique pattern. For major client projects, special acetate editions are produced as gifts. Each includes a still from the work on the cover with a die cut logomark revealing the brand’s signature Redline Red beneath.
It is a design system where every beat matters.
