Design Concept:
A timeless heritage thoughtfully reinvented, a delicate interpretation of the Korean traditional sensibility, a tactile composition imagined like a lucky charm.
An Ode to the Heritage Icon:
The first of our capsule collection, The Palette of Life features an array of the treasured traditional Korean wrapping cloths, known as Bojagi (보자기). A subtle harmony of cultural heritage and modern silhouettes, each piece is designed to convey the quintessence of the time-honoured tradition.
A Tribute to the Korean Culture:
Bojagi has held significant cultural and historical value in Korea since the Three Kingdoms period (57 BCE to 668 CE). It has been beloved by all, including the royals, and continues to be treasured by every family today. The name Bojagi originated from the word “bok (복)”, which means luck in the Korean language. Thus, when one uses the Bojagi to encase an item, it can be understood as the wrapping of blessings and is believed to protect good luck.
An Emblem of Good Luck
The Palette of Life weaves together the splendours of Obangsaek (오방색) – the traditional Korean colour spectrum that represent cardinal directions and symbolise the five elements of life – wood, fire, earth, metal and water. The colours and elements, believed to be necessary for a healthy, prosperous and long life, are delicately composed into each piece of the collection. As a finishing touch, the Bojagi is presented in an octagonal-shaped keepsake box – a cultural symbol embodying the nation’s values, also known as the eight trigrams (팔괘).
