We at The Design People had the opportunity to work on Dhuno Cups, an ITC Mangaldeep product that beautifully pays homage to the rich cultural and spiritual traditions of West Bengal. Rooted in devotion, the design captures the sacred ritual of burning Dhuno — a fragrant offering symbolic of purity and prayer. The vision was to create a design that not only reflects Mangaldeep’s ethos of connecting faith with feeling but also immerses the consumer in the warmth, rhythm, and emotion of Bengali spirituality.
Our design approach was built around celebrating the cultural richness of Bengal — its sights, sounds, and textures of devotion. The packaging palette of deep maroon, gold, and saffron evokes temple rituals, brass diyas, and incense smoke, while intricate motifs and background patterns draw inspiration from traditional Bengali art forms. At the heart of the design lies the Dhuno Cups logo, inspired by the graceful curves of the Bengali script, crafted to embody the spirit of devotion while balancing modernity and authenticity. Every detail — from typography to layout — was carefully curated to echo the sensorial and emotional experience of a prayer.
The result is a design that bridges heritage and contemporary appeal, transforming a daily ritual into a deeply evocative experience. Through thoughtful use of cultural cues, colour, and form, the Dhuno Cups identity and packaging encapsulate the fragrance of faith and the spirit of Bengal — a heartfelt tribute to devotion, storytelling, and design.
