Syrian Identity Team Unveils The New Identity of Syria Through a Modern National Rebrand

Mohammad Selwaye, the Creative Director at Mpire together with Wassem Kadoura were appointed by the new Syrian Government to lead the team of the National Rebranding Project. This mandate encompassed the redesign of Syria’s national symbol and the development of a unified visual identity and brand guidelines for the Syrian Presidency and all governmental ministries. The new national identity was officially unveiled in July 2025 by the President of Syria in a huge ceremony.

The New Logo
The Syrian Golden Eagle has long stood as a historic emblem of strength, triumph, and the guardian of the nation. Throughout Syria’s history, it has embodied resilience and continuity, serving as a symbol deeply rooted in the country’s identity.

Today, following Syria’s liberation and the establishment of a government grounded in the will of its people, it became essential to redefine the relationship between state and nation. The new design preserves the Golden Eagle as a mark of historical continuity, yet reimagines it with modern values and aesthetics. No longer represent a militarized state enclosing its people within a shield; instead, the people—represented by three stars—rise above the eagle, symbolizing their sovereignty, aspirations, and role as the true source of national strength. The three stars not only recall the Syrian flag but also represent the nation’s future, guiding collective ambition toward progress and renewal. The eagle, in turn, embodies a protective state—one that safeguards, empowers, and uplifts its citizens rather than imposing upon them.

The eagle’s wings are designed to convey balance: neither aggressively spread nor defensively closed, but wise, flexible, and dynamic—ready to act with purpose when called upon. Its three talons represent the land, sea, and air forces, while its 14 wing feathers stand for Syria’s provinces, affirming unity and wholeness.

The logo has two distinct variations: a flat silhouette version and a three-dimensional version, each designed for specific applications and contexts.

The color palette draws inspiration from Syria’s history, traditions, and regions. The primary dark teal-green tone modernizes the green of the Syrian flag, imparting a refined and distinguished character. Complementing this is a light gold, symbolizing Syria’s land, heritage, and enduring elegance.

To accompany the emblem, a bespoke logotype has been created, merging modernity with heritage. It draws from the ancient Ugaritic script—one of the earliest known writing systems—blending timeless legacy with contemporary design. Additionally, a series of patterns inspired by Syria’s diverse civilizations and cultural layers enrich the identity, celebrating the plurality and depth of the nation’s history.
