Creation of a global design concept for the Japanese sake bottle of the Hideko brand including the creation and graphic design of two labels and the design of the sake bottle.
The custom-designed bottle for the project is made of blue glass tinted in the mass. It has the same external shape as traditional Japanese sake bottles. Its centre refers to Japanese gardens, using the art of graphic tracing in the sand with different rakes.
These large intertwining grooves mark the bottle with their imprints and deliberately form the sign of infinity; a true symbol of an eternal restart, that of the rhythm of the seasons, the rice harvest and the production of sake.
The graphic work on the label is done in two parts. The free spaces left by the shapes of the undulating movement of the glass express the desire to make the distinctive signs of the town of Otsuki, on the upper part, converse with the attributes of the Hideko brand on the lower part.
The graphic gesture is based on a monochrome treatment with a blue bristle, taking up the very singular colour of the bottle’s glass. The coat of arms of the town of Otsuki is hijacked in the form of an obvious logotype, placed like an escutcheon often found on bottles of Pays de la Loire wine. It marks the brand’s desire for distinction and respectability and is supported by an explanatory text.
HIDEKO, written in a very architectural and simple custom typography, is completed by its Kanji hand-drawn by our teams, all in a pure and impactful composition.
Through this project, Studio Boam proposes a global design exercise that takes up all the striking codes that brands are concerned with. The emphasis on a singular history and a marked design with various references was a guideline for this project, mixing artistic tradition and the graphic treatment of Japanese gardens.
