Studio Blackthorns Shakes Up RTD: A Fresh, Premium Pop on Isautier Fizz in Cans

Isautier Fizz in RTD cans captures La Réunion’s energy in fresh, tropical colorways — with Studio Blackthorns turning a heritage rum house into a modern, on-the-go experience.

The challenge was bold: enter the fast-growing RTD market without losing the brand’s rhum DNA. The brief demanded a young, nomadic, accessible proposition—new in tone, true in substance—building on the momentum of Arhumatiks while carving its own lane. The objective was clear: create a premium alternative to beer, forge an identity that’s instantly recognizable, and architect a packaging system made for life in motion, all while magnifying Isautier’s equity rather than diluting it.

FIZZ was the strategic naming stroke. In a single, bright syllable, it condenses effervescence, lightness, and immediacy—an onomatopoeic promise the moment the tab snaps open. It’s international, modern, and effortless to pronounce, speaking to younger audiences without aging the brand.

Positioned at 12.5% ABV—about a glass of wine—Isautier Fizz sidesteps internal competition with Arrangés and Arhumatiks and frames itself as a crisp, cocktail-like alternative to beer. The promise is simple and seductive: the pleasure of a cocktail, none of the complexity.

Studio Blackthorns built a design system that’s tropical and surgical at once. Color leads with sunlit palettes keyed to flavor—Ananas Victoria, Tangor, Letchi, and Passion—delivering fast, legible cues at shelf and a confident, modern minimalism in hand. Typography locks in authority with the historic Isautier mark while a clean hierarchy keeps product, flavor, and claims instantly scannable. Material finishes do quiet heavy lifting: matte bases soften glare; subtle metallic accents suggest chill and effervescence without visual noise. The entire range is engineered to scale: swap hues and a key icon, keep the geometry, and the family coherence holds from lineup billboards to thumbnails and secondary packs. Even compliance and recycling marks are integrated with intent, supporting a responsible, on-the-go read without breaking the visual rhythm.

The result is a clear, contemporary translation of terroir into a nomadic experience. Isautier Fizz proves that innovation and authenticity are not opposites, and Studio Blackthorns shows how smart brand expression, naming, identity, and packaging design can turn a can into culture. Island character, premium clarity, and a crisp pop at first glance—Fizz is exactly what modern conviviality looks like.

For this first-of-its-kind project, Isautier tapped Studio Blackthorns for their free-thinking creativity and sharp eye for the can format. The collaboration blends modernity, intensity, and a strong sense of place, projecting Isautier’s spirit in a mobile, responsible package.
