Ostankino district in the north of Moscow is famous for its TV Tower. It rises up to 540 meters (1,772 feet), and is the tallest building in Europe. In short, Ostankino Tower isn’t just a tall building—it’s a mix of engineering milestone, historical symbol, and modern viewpoint over one of the world’s largest cities.
This project is dedicated to the visual identity and symbolic presence of Ostankino Tower, drawing inspiration from its metal construction, structural rhythm, and the distinctive light pattern visible from far across the city skyline. The design language is built around sharp geometric lines, resembling the engineering construction of the building. The pattern was inspired by the light pattern created when the silhouette of the TV Tower is illuminated at night. The vertical rhythm of the lights, the flowing lines and the flickering segments of the tower formed the starting point for the visual design. Repetitive linear elements echo the vertical steel and concrete structure, creating a sense of height, tension, and transmission. In this way, the building’s architectural feature has become a standalone symbol, recognisable even outside the context of the tower itself. The colours of the stripes are inspired by the colours that appear on the screen when a television signal is disrupted. They are extremely bright, particularly against the dark backdrop of the night sky, which is the familiar setting for the Ostankino Tower.
The silhouette of the tower can stand alone as a self-sufficient graphic element, or it can be accompanied by stripes of varying frequency. The pattern scales easily to different assets, adjusting its intensity to suit the requirements of the medium, covering almost the whole surface of the object.
