Student Dzodzoe Michael Brings Ptichiy Rinok Identity to Life with Vibrant Storytelling

Continuing from where we left off…

Each spring, this identity takes flight in its most animated form at the Annual Pigeon Fair—the largest event of its kind in Russia. The fair transforms the market into a living tapestry of chirping, fluttering life. Birds in cages and on shoulders, vendors in booths, and rows of parked cars loaded with crates form a scene as rhythmic and whimsical as the illustrations themselves.

This unusual scenery of cars and birds becomes a defining motif of the fair. Birds perch on mirrors and rooftops—making the parking lot feel like a surreal aviary in motion. This real-world imagery directly inspires the brand visuals: cars stacked with brightly colored birds, balanced like cutout toys in a child’s imagination. The design captures that fleeting moment of cheerful chaos where commerce, nature, and culture blur into one joyful experience.

In this context, the Ptichiy Rinok identity expands:

The cutout birds become not just symbols of life and tradition, but ambassadors of this moment—tiny, expressive characters that mimic the real birds visitors come to see.

The cars, rendered in saturated oranges, mint greens, and sky blues, reference the DIY culture of market vendors—resourceful, mobile, and full of character.

The typography and layout remain clean and minimal, allowing the lively imagery to carry the festive tone while preserving legibility and visual balance.

At the fair, the identity comes alive on signage, wayfinding, event posters, and souvenir merchandise. Children tug their parents toward stands adorned with familiar birds from the visuals. Visitors snap photos in front of the illustrated cars piled with paper birds—turning the identity into a shared cultural experience.

The Annual Pigeon Fair is more than an event—it’s a ritual of connection, and the Ptichiy Rinok design system becomes the language that narrates its story. Through this fusion of folk memory and modern play, the brand doesn’t just reflect a market—it sings it.
