Student Concept Identity for the Digital Archive of State Institute of Art History

Student Concept Identity for the Digital Archive of State Institute of Art History

The collection of monuments is a sector of the State Institute of Art History, whose employees organize research expeditions to collect and inventory information about monuments, which result in a series of printed publications and the creation of an electronic archive.

The reference points in the research were the passports of monuments with bureaucratic typography, cartography and systematization of information in archives. The project idea was a system for working with information using clear vertical and horizontal divisions and creating style-forming graphics using digital cartography.

The font pair was selected from the system fonts used for drawing up documents and reports. A typographic logo was made on one of the fonts, the style of which was the square brackets taken from the design of bibliographies. The logo is dynamic, brackets become a box for links within the project, for example, links to a resource, event or geography. Thus, the logo is divided into 2 parts: the name of the sector and the link.

Further, on the basis of heat and geological maps, a warm-cold gradient scale was created. It is superimposed on the map and as the stripes fall where, the color for area coding is chosen. The project “monuments in danger” is coded in black.

The website is designed based on the solutions found. On it, the cards of monuments are tied to a geographic or other filter, and it becomes possible to save, download and print pdf with the generated cards. These cards can become a personalized reference / guide for the user.

The design of the card is based on a clear division in half, which allocates space for photographs, basic information and information about the monument. On the margins, a frame is generated from technical information and crop marks, which also become style-forming elements.

Further, according to the same principles and using the graphics generated through the cartography, covers were developed for various series of printed editions of SVOD – catalogs, collections and tops. Souvenirs and items for expeditions were also designed.
