403 is an (imaginary) organisation that allows its clients anonymously enter 2000s websites’ interface. The naming refers to error 403 which appears when content on a webpage requires a special permission or is just forbidden to open.
The concept was inspired by web design decisions that are now used only for entertainment purposes as the technology possibilities have changed throughout the years completely, altering the way information is presented online. Moreover, 403 project has certain personal value to me as a child of the beginning of the 21st century.
Brand identity was initially build around 2 variations of a logo, that allows to add descriptions and photos. Adding 3 colours, including black, white and bright dark blue, it creates a special accent on the colours that are frequent to appear on websites. Main typography (initial chosen font is Pragmatica) is changed to make an accent on imperfections and even weird web design decisions that were common in 2000s as the beginning era of the Internet. Logo design is made of a pixelated font and mostly appears in black or bright blue.
Design decisions are mainly based on the way typography and images work together and even intertwine to create a nostalgic but still currently relevant graphics.
The photos used on posters and a website layout are made by Midjourney generations using pictures from open sources.
I would like to mention my tutor Ivan Vetrov who curated the project and supported my ideas during the design process. Full brand identity will be shared through my social media.
