Storytel, one of the world’s largest audiobook and e-book streaming services, prepared for the launch of the Harry Potter saga on their platform by requesting a gift to be sent to journalists and influencers.
The challenge was to transform an experience that exclusively exists in the digital realm into a physical object that could enhance its value.
The first step was to give paper, where the story originally began, a leading role once again. The second step was to create something that would make the listening experience even more magical.
Thus, The Storyteller is born: a unique papercraft analog amplifier that you can assemble with your own hands. Indeed, The Storyteller, piece by piece, will transform into the likeness of one of the characters from the audiobook: the Sorting Hat. Thus, it is precisely one of the protagonists who narrates the story. Using it is simple: once assembled, just insert your phone, and an NFC tag will automatically start the audiobook to which the amplifier is dedicated.
The Storyteller is a limited-edition premium box set designed to resemble a book.
The kit consists of a coated cardboard matchbox-style box, adorned with graphic elements printed with gold foil and UV white ink, immediately evoking the magical world of Harry Potter. Inside, you’ll find instruction and assembly cards, printed on Fedrigoni paper, a stick, and glue to construct the paper amplifier, and a personalized letter signed by Storytel.
The design development began with creating the focal point of the project: the cardboard cone that amplifies sound. From there, the Sorting Hat was designed using 3D software and then returned to paper to combine the hat and amplifier. Once the final models were designed, they were divided into numbered pieces, printed on A4 sheets, and used to build the smartphone housing with an NFC tag.
