The South West Peatlands Partnership is working to restore damaged peatland in Bodmin Moor, Dartmoor and Exmoor. After being awarded a grant to restore 1,680 hectares of damaged peatland by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), we were approached by the partnership to develop their new brand identity. The goal was to encompass the optimism and aspirations of the project, which are focused on driving awareness towards climate change, creating positive restorative change to the land, and protecting biodiversity in important rural ecosystems.
The final design is based on three pillars that encompass the core goals of the project: Collaboration, Sustainability and Optimism. The ripple effect visible in the logo symbolises the continuous spread of positive change and action. The ripple connotes the sustainable restoration of natural environments and ecosystems, to ensure that the peatlands continue to provide an imperative ecological function for future generations. The new identity utilises a positive and engaging atmosphere to provide a sense of hope to the public. Similarly, the messaging uses a bold yet playful graphic style that feels friendly and humanist. The colour palette takes inspiration from the surrounding natural environment, with colour application designed to encourage people to engage and adopt the values of the partnership by championing the brand and messaging.
Whilst still relatively new, the partnership has already seen a large visible impact on support and promotion for the project. Championing the mission to positively shape the future of peatlands for people, wildlife and planet, the brand accommodates for a consistently growing team working across Cornwall, Dartmoor and Exmoor, whilst capturing the celebrative and optimistic outlook of the partnership on shaping the future of the natural ecosystem.
