Our client – a dairy producer which gained huge success and notable sales increase in the market after launching their own Peanut Butter range, approached again to create a packaging for a new product of an existing dairy brand line – ‘Bilona Method A2 Cow Ghee’. We were challenged to create a packaging that would maintain the brand identity of an earlier packaging range which was made on highly detailed handdrawn illustrations, maintaining the strong association of already acknowledged benefits of the brand – freshness, quality and taste through simplicity and whiteness.

We made this packaging by creating taking inspiration from the process of the product itself. The substance Ghee is associated with milk and the specific kind of milk is only available in Gir Cows. By taking the inspiration of the cow we made the illustrations out of it and along with it the process of the Bilona Method, which is the traditional Indian ghee making process.

SIF Foods’ founders approached us to create and launch a new dairy product in the Indian market. The company focuses on organic, natural & traditional method to produce their dairy range. Together, we imagined a modern & fun identity that is friendly, outspoken, and quirky.

Traditional Bilona Method:

For centuries, Bilona Ghee has been produced and consumed in India. However, while the traditional method of making this aromatic elixir was slow and elaborate, requiring great manual time and effort, the modern method is quick and mechanized. But the nutritional value of ghee is largely lost in the modern process.

The Bilona Ghee method essentially requires heating on a low flame and the clarification process is long. In the end, the milk solids turn reddish brown and settle at the bottom. Clear Bilona Ghee is afloat above. Noteworthy is the fact that more cow milk than buffalo milk is taken up to make the same amount of ghee.
