Rudimentary Elevates InterCellar With Labels That Transform Wine Into a Sensory Journey

Rudimentary Elevates InterCellar With Labels That Transform Wine Into a Sensory Journey

InterCellar is a collection of seven organic Swiss wines whose labels explore the poetic relationship between the cosmos and the vineyard. Inspired by the rhythms of biodynamic agriculture, the series invites a slow, sensory experience where visual storytelling and the act of tasting unfold in tandem.

Each label is a full-wrap illustration, designed to be turned in the hand. From dense constellations to soft cloud forms, roses, leaves, roots, and grape clusters, the patterns shift and evolve, mirroring the life cycles of vines, the influence of lunar phases, and the transformation inherent in both nature and winemaking. There is no traditional front or back; instead, the label becomes a 360-degree canvas, encouraging discovery and contemplation.

The project began in collaboration with Roxane Fenal, a young Swiss winemaker committed to biodynamic practices and to exploring a new kind of visual language in wine. She brings a fresh, intuitive energy to her craft, with a deep respect for the land and a belief that wine can be both serious and playful. Together, we developed a brand identity that feels more like a series of vignettes than a static label. Each bottle represents a moment, a mood, a microcosm.

A monochromatic palette of deep blue and white creates a contemporary, high-contrast aesthetic, allowing the delicate detail of the illustrations to remain central. Though each label is distinct, the collection feels cohesive, unified by a shared visual language rooted in nature’s geometry and the unseen forces that shape the vineyard: light and dark, gravity and motion, order and chaos.

Custom typography was developed to echo the fine lines of the illustrations and reinforce the identity system.

The decision to forgo hierarchy was intentional. On the back of each bottle, a vertical strip delivers all required information in a clean, typographic layout. This separation of design and data gives space for the artwork to breathe and allows the viewer to engage with the label at their own pace. A QR code completes the loop, linking each wine to its digital story, origin, and seasonal notes.

The wines themselves range from crisp Chasselas to earthy Gamaret, each one paired with a label that visually expresses something of its character through pattern alone.

InterCellar is a collection for curious drinkers, natural wine lovers, and design-minded consumers. It doesn’t aim to dominate a shelf. It aims to slow the moment down. To surprise. To connect. To turn a bottle of wine into an object of attention, an experience of form, texture, and mood.
