Pilgrim Pit Stop: a podcast about following the pioneering way of Jesus.
I started this personal project in 2020. It has led to some amazing adventures and conversations. But there was a big problem. The branding just wasn’t up to it. It looked thrown together at the last minute: an afterthought. This isn’t far from the truth!
When I started the podcast, my focus was on the gear and the hosting and the interview technique. Branding? It maybe took all of one afternoon. A change was long overdue. It was time for a strategic rebrand, to coincide with the podcast’s relaunch.
The brief:
1. To create a sublime brand identity for Pilgrim Pit Stop Podcast, a personal project exploring my Christian faith.
2. This will help me get closer to my destination: conversations about, adventures with and reflections on the one who has transformed my life.
3. The brand identity will encapsulate my adventurous, welcoming and joyful philosophy.
Drawing from references as varied as pilgrim passports, illuminated manuscripts and adventure book illustrations, I crafted an identity that reflected my heart behind the podcast.
Every last detail was strategically thought-through. For example, this is the story behind the primary typeface, Sinistre: “Aiming to revive the Insular Script of the Book of Kells, [Sinistre] borrows inspirations from Gaelic stone carvings, Celtic calligraphy and Elzevir types”.
Creating this identity reminded me why branding is so essential. For a while, I’ve felt that Pilgrim Pit Stop’s visuals didn’t reflect its quality. Rebranding has equipped me to take ownership of it (in the process, dramatically increasing its reach).
