Omdesign’s Dream OM Redefines Sustainability in Packaging Design

In the cyclical dance of life, a simple seed holds the power to inspire and drive the evolution of humanity.

Since 1998, we have transformed our ideas, as the golden grain of wheat, into a timeless blend of excellence, consistency, and determination. Here at Omdesign®, our mission is to continue this cycle while patiently nurturing the seed and witnessing its fruition. We return to the essence and values that we have always defended, appreciating the beauty of simple nature in its purest form, which has so much to teach us.

Dream OM continues Omdesign®’s commitment to sustainability, while emphasizing the importance of minimizing our impact on the earth and connecting with the fundamental aspects of life. In an increasingly challenging world, the significance of nature’s little treasures, like wheat, brings us together and urges collective responsibility for the well-being of all and future generations.

We sowed wheat seeds, representing the foundation of human sustenance and growth, and highlighting the diverse paths we can take, on a daily basis. From bread to whisky, it invites us to share moments of union and to enhance relationships, while catch attention for the need of pro-environmental initiatives our generations need to take.

We took a reusable glass jar and adorned it with cork, on the stopper and on the neck-collar, that also works as a jar coaster. The outside packaging that embraces it was drawn and built without glue and only with embossing and printing. Its paper is made from plant fibers and is compostable, thus providing nutrients to grow new plants. We chose it since up to 50% of this paper is made from resource-saving fibers such as wheat straw, grass, cotton, and cannabis. The jar counts with a wood-free paper label made from 15% by-product from barley processing, such as from the production of beer and whisky, as the essence of our self-promotion packaging. The remaining paper contains 40% post-consumer recycled fibers and 45% virgin wood pulp. Our Dream OM is printed, without foil stamping or varnishes, to make it more eco-friendly. To avoid single-use items, the bottom carries a reusable drop stopper, which poses an incredibly important challenge: to not stop the ecological drop. Inside, there are wheat seeds with a jiffy grow-block that, upon addition of water, it swells into a block, ready to propagate or cultivate the germinating plants.

We favored more ecological materials that, in addition to being reusable and recyclable, also have the majority of their components recycled and have a positive impact on the environment.

We enriched our Dream OMwith a game of embossing and debossing all over the paper sleeve. Inside it, there is an instructional scheme that invites you to begin this life cycle, turning the bottle upside down and removing the drop stopper at the base. At the bottom, there are the wheat seeds that we want to continue sowing, so we also invite you to germinate them and to witness its admirable growth. Then, turn the jar over again and enjoy the Single Malt Scotch Whisky it carries. When empty, adorn it with a harvested wheat cob so you can contemplate it for, at least, another 25 years.

The label, whose paper is made of barley, does not include varnishes or foils. We resourced to printing and high or low relief only.

Our Dream OM, as the former Omdesign self-promotion editions that we have been creating for the past years, has an ecological message for all of our clients and partners. It gathers recycled, reusable, recyclable and plant-based materials in a call-to-action small piece. But it goes further, it is an invitation to continue seeding, both the wheat seeds it contains and the sustainable message it carries. The Portuguese cork of 100% sustainable provenance, the reusable whisky mini-bottle and drop stopper, alongside the plant-based papers and cardboards only embrace the crucial warning for the present and future generations, to not stop the eco-friendly drop.
