Kopke – The Library Collection
Kopke, the oldest Port wine house, has launched “The Library Collection”, a truly unique and luxurious edition, which aims to honor and celebrate the journey and know-how acquired, since 1638, by this renowned producer of wines.
Omdesign developed the concept, design and entire production of this special collection. “The Library Collection” symbolizes the respect for the roots, origins and legacy entrusted to this house over the years. Composed by three differentiating nectars united by Port wine – a Very Very Old Tawny, a Vermouth and a Quinine, made at the beginning of the 20th century –, this combination stands out for its uniqueness and unparalleled character.
The project was conceived with the purpose of elevating the brand’s assets and going further in the art of creating unique combinations. Inspired by Kopke’s exclusivity, values and identity, Omdesign recreated iconic elements, which are part of its extensive and incomparable collection, its library of old and rare wines, resulting in an original, aspirational and unique work.
With a book concept and using noble materials and distinct finishes, every detail of “The Library Collection” invites connoisseurs to discover and absorb the full potential of the Douro and Kopke. Each piece was carefully selected to highlight the mastery of ageing and the art of blending, present in this special collection.
From the book-shaped case to the fontain pen exclusively designed for this edition and the original inkwell, from the cover and spine to the striped wooden cradle – representing the pages of old Kopke record volumes –, to the signed and numbered certificates that attest the authenticity of the three wines and the booklet that presents them, every detail has been meticulously elaborated to ensure that the story, which began in 1638, continues to be written, with the same rigor and consistency.
Omdesign delved into Kopke’s extensive wine and book library to bring this project to life. We reinterpreted old labels and concentrated the prestige and character of almost four centuries of history in a timeless work that accumulates narratives and proves that the peace of ageing can provide experiences that were not written, over the course of time, of the river, of every drop.
Omdesign was also responsible for all communication materials, including photography and video, which illustrate the story, process and details of this unique edition and all the exclusive pieces that make it up. The Leça da Palmeira agency not only designed and produced the different media materials, but was also responsible for the development of the naming, concept, storytelling and narrative. This new milestone seeks to continue the path of the drop of ink that writes the future of this art, which is enriched with each new chapter, and which we hope will be renewed, from generation to generation.
