Balché is a local restaurant in Texcoco, México, with years of culinary tradition. It is one of the most frequented restaurants in the neighborhood because of its excellent flavor and specialties. However, this restaurant didn’t have a distinctive branding that helped their customers remember their experience apart from the food. Therefore this project recaptured the traditional yet international essence of Balché and translated it into a clear, elegant, and atemporal brand.
One of the things I wanted to keep was the original flower on its logo but turn it into a more sophisticated and unique symbol. Redesigning it was engaging and hands-on fun. I made a hand drawing of the flower with a different style, then turned it into a 3D shape from a card box and made a series of stamps with paint. It eventually became the redesigned logo for the restaurant. The main objective was to make it look and feel as authentic and different as its cuisine. The brand collaterals came from that icon and a typographic logo with the restaurant’s name and its address.
The design focused on an abstract variation for the flower in the original logo, creating a series of engaging, elegant, and simple deliverables to attract a more extensive range of audiences and families. These include a digital strategy for social media, napkins, plates, and packaging variations for wine and food. It also consists of a series of printed rollouts such as outdoor posters and indoor signage. The project maintained a color palette filled with warm tones and serif typography.
