Eyes wide open
Coffee is an electrifying everyday experience. Its aficionados won’t function until the first sip of their favorite blend makes them all wired up, and this is the story we are narrating in the design of the packaging for the Taresso Artisan Coffee Roasters’ capsule series. The capsules are turning into faces, just by adding them one specific feature: eyes that wide open that can be linked with the intense effect of a single coffee capsule. The illustrations are vivid and diverse, displaying the extraordinary yet unique influence that every capsule can have on coffee lovers.
The history of coffee began in Ethiopia, where the Arabica coffee tree (Coffee arabica) grew as a bush. Originally the fruit was used whole by local people, who either chewed it or ground it into small lumps. The earliest reliable reference to coffee consumption or knowledge of coffee trees appears in the mid-15th century in the monasteries of the Sufis of Yemen.
The origins of coffee and the discovery of its properties have given rise to several myths. The most important is known as the myth of the dancing goat, which attributes the discovery of the properties of coffee to an Ethiopian goatherd. Caldi, observed that when his animals ate the fruits of the coffee plant during the day they became more active, while at night they found it difficult to sleep.
