Lonsdale Creates PrestaFont: The Exclusive Typography Powering PrestaShop’s New Brand Identity

Description: With the “Unlocking Commerce” brand idea, PrestaShop is ushering in a new era of commerce and giving control back to merchants.
At the core of this new identity is a proprietary typography, PrestaFont, that reflects the diversity of merchants and the limitless customization offered by the solution. The result is a set of 4 alternative glyph families: “History” echoing the brand’s geeky, open-source heritage; “Human” highlighting the spirit of collaboration; “Iconic” using pictograms from retail and e-commerce; and “Data Speed” reflecting the acceleration of commerce thanks to data.

Brief and Solution: How could we support the transformations implied by the change of business model, while reaffirming PrestaShop’s historic Open Source DNA, and thus create a powerful brand to rival Shopify? PrestaFont was uniquely designed to reflect the diversity of merchants using the solution and its limitless customization possibilities. We created a set of 4 alternative glyph families: “History” echoing the brand’s geeky, open-source heritage; “Human” highlighting the spirit of collaboration; “Iconic” using pictograms from retail and e-commerce and “Data Speed” reflecting the acceleration of commerce.

Cultural Context: Multicultural project given the international presence of the brand and PrestaShop’s leading position in Europe and Latam (France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Romania, Czechia, Mexico, Argentina, Chile). The group asked to develop typography in “extended Latin”, i.e. compatible with all the countries mentioned above, thus integrating accents and special signs in addition to “Standard Latin”.
