Littlewood’s is born from a love of home brewing and craft beer, starting out back in 2012 when founder, James, was home-brewing in his university digs. Leap forward to 2023, and with the average ABV creeping up, and the trend for quirky and confusing beer names well established, James decided now was the time to establish a brand and bring a more sociable and informative beer to the craft world.
Littlewood’s is all about clarity. Sharing all of the information beer lovers want to know, all while ensuring their heads aren’t sore the next day. The packaging design for each product enables the consumer to make an informed decision about which beer is for them, through a visual system which uses tables and charts to ensure simple and effective communication of information. Flavour notes are a key part of this, ensuring the consumer knows that this low ABV beer is not lacking in flavour.
Each beer in the Littlewood’s core range takes influence from characteristics of trees, and to truly root the design in the connection to nature, we used locally and sustainably sourced wood to create texture for the tree stump assets. Through a complex – and admittedly very fun – process, we used heat to shrink back the liquids in the wood and manipulate the wood’s texture into a usable surface for print. Printing the wood stumps in-house, we then digitally developed assets for use across the brand world.
