Scottish creative studio Pim-Pam have been working with Bature Brewery on a new core range of beer cans to coincide with the opening of their Lagos brewery, taproom and restaurant in Nigeria. With delays caused by the effects of COVID 19, the new brewery is now set to open early 2021, introducing the brand to a new audience.
Since the launch of a recent limited edition range with Edinburgh artist KMG in 2020, the Brewery are now looking at more local, Nigerian based artists as they plan for the future of the brand and brewery itself. Collaborating with Lagos artist Williams Chechet on Black Gold Stout and Harmattan Haze, and Yemisi Williams on First Lady IPA and Naija Electric Pale Ale, the team at Pim-Pam have developed a suite of designs that aim to capture and celebrate West African craft and culture showcasing local artists. From vibrant and expressive collage artworks, to bold illustrative character designs that tie into each beer, the artists work will feature not only on the packaging, but the inner workings of the brewery as well. And in future, beers from Bature Brewery will showcase and champion some of the emerging and established Lagos art community as the brewery grow further in West Africa.
Pim-Pam’s Luke McCarthy said: ‘We’ve been working with Bature Brewery since they started out as Nigeria’s first craft brewery. Starting with a small home-brewing set up years ago, they’ve grown from strength to strength, and opening a new taproom and restaurant in Lagos is a huge achievement for the team. They’ve always had a close connection to the culture and community in West Africa, so working with Williams Chechet and Yemisi Williams, and celebrating Nigerian based artists and talent, seemed like a natural progression for the brand and what they stand for. It’s exciting with the potential to have many opportunities for unique collaborations across the Lagos, Nigerian and West African art scene – and there’s no shortage of beer recipes too!’
