Knickerbocker Rebrand

Knickerbocker Rebrand

I originally created Knickerbocker’s branding in 2015, just a year or so after they became a label. For that project, we created branding that would be the face of a heritage and workwear inspired brand. We landed on a custom serif lettering that retained the imperfections and inconsistencies of being hand-drawn, just like many of the brands that existing during the era they were pulling inspiration from. Through the years, by removing and/or adding certain elements, the custom serif lettering did not change, but consistently represented Knickerbocker as their inspiration evolved, their clothing improved, and they grew into the brand they are today.

Our goal with the rebrand was to give a nod to the heritage that Knickerbocker has always pulled inspiration from, but create something that feels more elegant, refined and could live in the modern world without feeling too contemporary. To achieve this, we felt a script was the best route for the main wordmark. It’s classic and elegant, yet doesn’t feel dated or trendy. I hand drew the script, but focused on creating uniform and consistent letters. To pair with the script as a secondary wordmark, we updated the serif lettering that Knickerbocker is known for. This rework consists of cleaner, more uniform letters and a more contemporary serif. We also created an updated version of their KNY mark that has been embroidered on most of their garments for the past few years and a script KNY monogram.

These logos and marks are being used across social media, web and labels on the garments featured in the Knickerbocker Fall & Winter 2023 collection.
