Jamhot Create a Bold New Bottle for Downpour Gin

Jamhot Create a Bold New Bottle for Downpour Gin

Glasgow design studio Jamhot has launched a new custom bottle for Downpour, the award winning gin produced in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides by North Uist Distillery Co.

Inspired by the natural beauty of the distillery’s island home, the striking signature bottle was commissioned to help the brand stand out within a busy category and better reflect the quality of the premium liquid inside.

Jamhot collaborated with Italian glass bottle manufacturer Vitro Elite to bring the design to life, with the first bottle in the range for Downpour Scottish Dry Gin decorated in a vibrant translucent blue rain colour to complement the name and distinctive brand pattern design.

Alongside the new bottle, the studio developed a series of promotional materials to help the distillery launch Downpour to the world with the ‘Make It Rain’ campaign supporting Downpour Gin’s mission to drench the world in island flavour.

Discussing the new project, Jamhot Creative Director Craig Laverty commented ‘This was our first foray as a studio into the world of custom bottle design, and we’ve loved the experience. It’s been a great getting to see the project develop from sketch to detailed designs & prototypes to final product. As the project started under lockdown conditions, it’s incredible to see it launched to the world as the days get lighter & brighter.’

First launched in 2019, Downpour Gin is the creation of island duo Jonny Inglewood and Kate MacDonald. The pair launched their new distillery with the aim of starting a vibrant business on their island home which would provide employment opportunities for local people while putting North Uist, South Uist & Benbecula on the map with their first legal distillery.

The launch of the new bottle comes at an exciting period of growth for the distillery, following their move to their new home at Nunton Steadings – a historic island building built way back in the 1700s, which has an interesting history as a former nunnery, coffin makers and, as legend would have it, the place where none other than Bonnie Prince Charlie once took shelter.
