Intertype Studio Creates Concept for Hermès Libérée Fragrance

We’re excited to share our fragrance concept, Hermès Libérée. In keeping with their long history of hand-crafting equestrian accessories and luxury leather travel bags, the idea feels perfect for a time in which we’re all feeling more contained and in need of escape than ever. A brand which has long been associated with the romance luxury travel, (equestrian and otherwise) feels like the perfect communicator of a story about freedom.

The name ‘Libérée’ meaning ‘freed’, ‘unfettered’ or ‘released’ uses an additional ‘e’ to form the feminine version of the French word. The horse shoe inspired bottle structure holds a precious droplet of the fragrance and is suggestive of a beautifully made bag charm. The closure reflects the brand’s outstanding leather craftsmanship, whilst the brand name is debossed into the side like a hallmark.

One side of the bottle surround contains a hidden weight, which causes the bottle to ‘lean’ whilst remaining balanced, suggesting the spontaneity and freedom of the name. The fragrance comes in a range of variants, allowing the freedom to choose the ideal scent for the individual. The bottle uses a combination of gold plated metal, glass and leather, and comes in a simple card box. The luxurious print finishes include a combination of foil, emboss and deboss on heavy textured card stock.

We are a strategic brand design agency based in Soho London, and we believe that storytelling is an essential aspect of successful brand design, creating emotionally engaging design that is part of a bigger ‘Brand World’. Story telling builds brands that are more memorable and sharable. When a brand tells a story connected to a cultural insight or emotion that we all share, we believe that this is when it has the most impact. This concept was self-initiated and we hope that the brand teams at Hermès fall in love with the idea as much as we did.
