Highland Hounds: Crafting a Distinctive Brand Identity

As the creative minds behind Highland Hounds, Finbo Studio embarked on a mission to establish a brand for a standout pet directory brand that resonated with pet owners seeking extraordinary experiences in the enchanting Scottish Highlands. Our core objective was clear: to connect pet enthusiasts with accommodations, attractions, and dining options that went beyond dog-friendly, treating their four-legged companions like cherished family members.

Our vision for Highland Hounds was to position it as the go-to platform for discovering the very best the Highlands of Scotland had to offer. To achieve this, we set out to forge partnerships with the most welcoming and pet-friendly establishments Scotland had to offer, awarding select locations with our prestigious ‘Approved Badge.’ This not only recognized their excellence but also provided them with exclusive marketing opportunities, including featured blog posts and prominent placements on our platform.
In crafting Highland Hounds’ visual identity, we drew inspiration from the rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands. Our design philosophy was characterized by an emphasis on texture and authenticity over a polished aesthetic, and our imagery featured the breath-taking mountain terrains and expansive lochs that define the region.

To bring this identity to life, we conceived a distinctive hand-drawn wordmark logo, seamlessly incorporating a dog’s tail and the iconic Highland mountains. We carefully selected colors and fonts that harmonized with our overall design concept. With the visual identity firmly in place, we then turned our attention to the user experience. Recognising the common pitfalls of cluttered and difficult-to-navigate directory websites, we designed a clean and uncluttered wireframe layout for Highland Hounds. Our focus was on simplicity and ease of navigation. We incorporated essential features such as search bars, well-defined categories, and filters, ensuring that users could effortlessly find what they were looking for. This commitment to user-friendliness was essential in mitigating frustration and reducing bounce rates. Lastly, we implemented a review system that allowed site users to share their experiences and insights with the businesses they visited. This valuable feedback fosters a sense of community and trust among users and establishments listed on our platform.
