Georgian Bay Spirit Co. is a craft distiller located in Collingwood, Ontario. It produces and sells award winning spirits and ready-to-drink craft cocktails in a can.
The objective was to redesign Georgian Bay Spirit Co’s core lineup—ready-to-drink craft cocktails in a can. In Ontario liquor stores (LCBO) for example, the ready-to-drink craft cocktail scene continues to see an explosion of new brands hitting the shelf. Georgian Bay Spirit Co. is a pioneer in the space and was ready for a redesign of their core lineup to bring it into a contemporary space to stand out on shelf.
Using a base color for the cans we differentiated the four product lines—light blue for Gin Smash, dark blue for Vodka Smash, vibrant green for Tequila Smash, white for Gin Soda (formerly Smashed Soda) and a Caribbean blue for Tropical Smash.
Flavor cues were treated via colored banding on the top of the cans and the flavor callout on the fronts. The goal of the redesign was to retain brand recognition. Fruit illustrations on the previous cans were eliminated to make space for a stronger hierarchy of brand, product name and flavor. Visual brand recognition is retained through the use of brand elements from previous cans such as type, the windswept pine icon and color.
In addition to individual can designs, 12-can mixed pack boxes were designed for Gin Smash, Tequila Smash and Gin Soda. The products are available across Canada and continue to be one of the LCBO’s (Liquor Board of Ontario) best sellers.
