Dr. Edge is a bold and distinctive Tasmanian wine brand, originally established in collaboration with Cornershop in 2015. “The wines quickly accrued a cult following, in part due to the eccentricities of the maker and eye-catching label design, but more so due to the resounding quality across the range.” — Katrina Butler, Halliday Wine Companion. Dr. Edge embodies the brooding alter ego, the mysterious side of Peter Dredge; a man who has seen and experienced the dark side both personally and professionally throughout his career as a winemaker. Cornershop created a packaging design solution that features an enigmatic artwork for the front label and expressive, handcrafted typography on the back labels — combining mystery, intention and individuality.
‘P.J. Dredge’ is a brand created to release vintage ‘traditional method’ Sparkling wines of distinction. Each wine is picked, fermented, bottled and disgorged entirely by hand; with an artisanal approach. The 2020 Blanc de Noirs (pictured) is a Tamar Valley single vineyard blend of Pinot Noir & Pinot Meunier, selling at A$70 rrp. P.J. Dredge’s visual identity is inspired by classic Champagne labels; with elegant serif typography and delicate decoration in the form of ornate flourishes. The back label design is a juxtaposition of classically-inspired elements (P.J. Dredge) and experimental typography; reinforcing the personality of Dr. Edge. ‘P.J. Dredge’ and the varietal name is finished in a glossy high build varnish. A flourish also subtly embellishes the contemporary front label artwork in the same glossy varnish; a discreet nod to the classics and a quiet celebration of duality.
