Free the Birds Elevates the Resonance of Wellness With New Identity for Hess Sound

Brand elevation agency Free The Birds has partnered with Hess Sound to unveil a tranquil yet powerful new visual identity for Peter Hess Singing Bowls, bringing centuries-old sound therapy into the modern luxury wellness space through refined, sensory-led design.

For years, wellness practitioner Jana Hess – daughter of pioneering sound therapist Peter Hess – has introduced global audiences to the calming, restorative power of singing bowls through immersive sound bath experiences. Handcrafted using traditional methods, the Peter Hess Singing Bowls are internationally recognised for their tonal precision and therapeutic resonance, having been refined over decades of research and practice in sound therapy.

Despite their reputation within wellness communities, the singing bowls were previously packaged in generic, utilitarian boxes, a stark contrast to their spiritual and emotional impact. Hess turned to Free The Birds to bring the packaging and brand experience into alignment with the product’s authenticity and intention.

The new visual identity designed by the agency captures the serene power of sound through clean, minimal packaging with natural tones, refined typography, and a series of abstract, gold-accented line visuals, each inspired by the bowl’s physical shape and acoustic reverberations. The premium magnetic box design houses the bowl, a padded cushion, and a wooden mallet, turning the unboxing into a calming ritual in itself.

At the heart of the redesign is a new brand line, “Sound can still the noise of life”. This emotive statement reflects both the therapeutic purpose of the product and its ability to counter the chaos of modern life with ancient wisdom.

The new packaging identity supports Hess Sound’s ambitions to expand into luxury spas, boutique hotels, and high-end retail, while also enhancing the brand’s direct-to-consumer offering. The relaunch debuted at global beauty, health and wellness summit, INNOCOS Miami, where the singing bowls were named as the winners of the Mental Wellness category in the Wellness & Longevity Choice Awards 2025.

Jana Hess, CEO of Hess Sound, shares, “These singing bowls have always spoken for themselves through the emotional impact they create, but the new packaging from Free The Birds finally gives them a visual voice that matches their essence. The thoughtful design reflects our values and roots, while allowing us to present the bowls confidently in premium retail and wellness settings around the world.”

Nick Vaus, Co-founder and Managing Partner at Free The Birds, added, “Working with Hess Sound gave us the opportunity to elevate a product that already has such deep emotional and spiritual resonance. Our goal was to reflect the integrity of the craftsmanship and the quiet power of sound in a packaging system that feels both luxurious and authentic. This project allowed us to bridge ancient healing with contemporary design—two worlds that, when aligned, speak volumes.”
