Traveling to Middle Eastern countries, particularly Iran, often presents unexpected challenges due to limited access to reliable local resources. This lack of accessible information can make decision-making difficult, potentially leading to considerable time and financial losses.
Understanding local customs is as essential as knowing regional laws. Access to current information on tourist sites, cultural norms, national regulations, contact details for verified local tour guides, exchange rates, critical locations, and emergency contacts helps travelers plan more effectively. This application provides these essential resources and establishes a trusted connection between travelers and locals before arrival.
The app’s core objective is to empower the local workforce, particularly in small towns and villages, by facilitating international connections and creating local job opportunities.
It promotes eco-tourism, encouraging sustainable tourism practices that respect local ecosystems and heritage while fostering economic growth and social integration. This approach aims to support local economies, preserve cultural heritage, and facilitate reverse migration by offering reliable income opportunities within these communities.
Target Users
People from around the world who want to travel as tourists to Middle Eastern countries, especially Iran.
Challenges
• Legal limitations: Awareness of regulations that may affect both tourists and local guides.
• English as a second language: Recognizing that English may not be the primary language for all users.
• Accurate information sharing: Ensuring that information provided is reliable and correct.
• Easy location searching: Facilitating straightforward navigation to find specific areas
• Clear information differentiation: Distinguishing between essential information users need to know
and additional details they may want to explore.
Design
The design process began with identifying key challenges and criteria, followed by research, brainstorming, and the creation of user personas and wireframes. With Iran as the target market, the brand identity was carefully developed to align with user needs. Once the user interfaces of the main pages were designed, they underwent a thorough review to address accessibility and potential coding issues. Color codes were optimized (Color Blindness Test) for clarity and consistency, and static images were replaced with visuals that better supported the design objectives. To enhance user accessibility, a bottom menu with four icons was introduced. Finally, intermediate pages were designed to ensure seamless and intuitive navigation throughout the application.
Impacts:
Market Value
In recent years, there has been a growing demand for travel experiences that are not only enjoyable but also benefit the environment and local communities. By connecting tourists with local tour guides, the app supports economic growth in small towns and villages, creating long-term income opportunities for local households which aligns with SDG 8‘s goal of Decent Work and Economic Growth, ensuring sustainable livelihoods through tourism.
Sustainable Impact
By promoting eco-tourism, this app helps preserve unique ecosystems and cultural traditions that may be threatened by mass tourism. For instance, in countries like Iran, eco-tourism can play a vital role in conserving the rich biodiversity of its landscapes, from the lush forests of the north to the arid deserts of the central plateau. It also helps protect traditions and handicrafts that are an integral part of local culture and heritage.
Social Impact
The app also provides a platform for local communities to share their knowledge and stories, offering tourists an authentic experience while generating income for local people. This economic empowerment can further encourage communities to preserve their natural and cultural resources, creating a positive cycle in which conservation efforts are continuously supported by tourism revenues.
