Excavation Calendar 2023 Student Concept

Excavation Calendar 2023 Student Concept

2023 marks 240 years since the first excavations in Herculaneum. So I created a calendar dedicated to this event.

Since my work turned out to be quite complex, the first thing an interested person will see is a small guide on how to “dig” this calendar. It describes the main nuances of my calendar.

The graphics and functional basis were based on the concept of a pit (the deepening that archaeologists make when leaving for excavations), and the form factor was 12 months.

They are divided into 3 eras: Cenozoic, Paleozoic and Mesozoic. At the same time, it is worth noting that there are an unequal number of months in each era, since the deeper we dig, the more carefully we need to inspect the plot of land allocated for work.

To open a new era, the seeker opens perforated sheets, thereby deepening month after month. On the reverse side, he can find either a description of a find that was found in real life on the same day, or he may get a “treasure” card with a scratch layer. This is a sign that there is a chance to get a super rare find that is printed on gold-plated paper

I also thought about the fact that the seeker may not find his cherished artifact, so on empty cards he will find encouraging phrases like: “Nothing, you’ll find your fart again.”

I chose sand shades as the colors, since this edition is dedicated to the Middle East

This project uses typefaces such as Cinema1909 and CoFo Sans from the word factory Contrast Foundry.
