The invention of the deck (Baraja) of cards is not exact but it is believed that it was born in China in the 12th century.
After a rapid expansion through the East, the letters reached Europe with the Arab conquest of Visigothic Spain, although some more romantic voices attribute this fact to the Crusaders, something that can make both hypotheses are complementary.
In any case, there is no doubt that the oldest deck in the West is the Spanish one.
Its expansion throughout the rest of Europe did not occur until the 13th century, at the height of the military peak of the Crown of Aragon. In 1282 Pedro III of Aragon crossed the Mediterranean to conquer Sicily and, according to many authors, he introduced the first decks of cards in Italy.
During the early years of playing cards, when the game became popular, the church banned it in some countries. It was considered, like any game of chance, a product of the devil ”. A game enjoyed by both the popular classes and the nobility, usually with bets involved.
In this project we seek to revalue the history of the Spanish deck, using collage in its figures, and an elegant and striking design, which imitates Fournier’s playing cards in a crazy and detailed way.
The objective of the project is for it to be a well-Spanish wine, to be identified with the Spanish culture and with its people. The use of the colors red and gold and the placement of the flag in their figures highlights the origin and reinforces the concept.
Inside the box that will include the three wines will come a deck of Spanish cards with the same designs as the labels, which you can use to play historical Spanish card games. Offering the customer a plus in the purchase and reinforcing the idea of meeting and recreation.
In addition, this project offers the possibility of generating more wines in the future with the rest of the figures in the Spanish deck, thus achieving a system of different wines with different prices and endless possibilities.
