Hunter Luxury has formed the perfect partnership with globally-renowned British beauty brand Charlotte Tilbury, resulting in a stunning limited edition vanity case for the Pillow Talk Dreams Come True makeup kit.
The lavish gift set contains 13 full-size nude-pink makeup products inside an elaborate chest, covered in quilted soft-touch nude-pink PU leather. It comes complete with a large mirror fitted to the inside of the lid, and two drawers featuring ribbon handles, colour matched to the pink satin material lining the case.
The gift set is designed to offer functionality as a vanity case long after the products it contains have been used, providing additional value to the consumer while also helping to reduce packaging waste.
Transforming the beauty landscape
In just over ten years, Charlotte Tilbury has transformed the luxury beauty industry. Even in a market dominated by heritage brands that have been household names for decades, Charlotte Tilbury proves that disruptors can still thrive.
Founded by its namesake, a renowned makeup artist who blazed a trail through the fashion world starting in the early 90s, Charlotte Tilbury has built a reputation as a brand that combines luxury with accessibility. It demystifies, decodes, and adds value that differentiates it from many other luxury companies.
A quote on the Charlotte Tilbury website from its founder says, “Give everyone the right skincare, makeup, and fragrance and they can conquer their world.” The success of Charlotte Tilbury itself proves this statement is true – for the consumers who feel empowered by its premium self-care and beauty products, but also for the brand, which has rapidly expanded into one of the world’s leading beauty businesses.
By marrying inclusivity with that all-important sense of exclusivity – the thing that makes consumers feel like a product has been made just for them – Charlotte Tilbury has indeed conquered the world. Capturing that invaluable contradiction in a single limited-edition pack was the key challenge that our design team at Hunter Luxury had to tackle.
Impeccable attention to detail
In this case, we weren’t starting from zero. We have an established relationship with Charlotte Tilbury, having collaborated on special edition packaging in the past. This is a key benefit of being a supplier that prides itself on trust – our customers understand they can rely on us to deliver on the most challenging briefs, providing products on time and within budget. Crucially, our customers know they can also rely on us to tell their stories, capturing their brand within packaging to build an emotional connection with consumers.
Our challenge for this project was to combine the many contrasting elements that make the Charlotte Tilbury brand so compelling – the blend of on-trend modernity and Hollywood nostalgia, and of inclusivity and exclusivity – into one singular vision.
This was achieved by developing a vanity case with a classic Art Deco style structure – complete with an integrated mirror fixed to the underside of the lid – that was covered in an all-over quilted PU leather material, featuring the bespoke Pillow Talk signature diamond design, and coloured in a delicate nude-pink hue. In addition to reflecting the colours of the makeup products contained in the set, this colour also captured a subtly fashionable appearance that can be incorporated into a wide variety of décor styles if used as a display case.
The case featured three compartments – one hinged lid, and two drawers – that featured inserts that securely held the primary Pillow Talk products. As part of our mission was to create a gift set that was easily reusable, these inserts were removable, ensuring consumers could use the vanity case to store other products for years to come.
The interior of the case was lined with satin – also colour-matched to the nude-pink hue that inspired the project – to add an extra sense of luxury to the opening experience. This experience was facilitated by the inclusion of ribbon handles on the drawers and a PU handle with rose gold clasps on the lid. This opening handle could also be used as a convenient carrying handle by locking the lid using a lozenge-style front clasp, styled to represent Charlotte Tilbury’s famous CT logo. As an added detail, the CT logo was also represented on both sides of the case in the form of two rose gold badges.
The future of reusable solutions
Together, all of these intricate details combine to deliver a powerful message to consumers. The quilted PU leather playfully toys with the phrase ‘pillow talk’ that inspired the name of the makeup line, while also reflecting the aesthetic of the products through its on-trend nude-pink colouring. The modern colour scheme blends seamlessly with more traditional luxe vanity elements such as rose gold clasps and an integrated mirror, cementing Charlotte Tilbury as a timeless beauty brand. And the whole design combines functionality and accessibility with a sense of exclusivity, summing up the empowering, uplifting spirit of the Charlotte Tilbury brand identity.
The design was precision-engineered from the ground up, ensuring that it delivered functionality, accessibility, and premium aesthetics with no compromises. This was vital to ensure that the drawers slid open smoothly, that the exterior frame was robust enough to cope with being used as a portable vanity case, and that the locking clasp holds the lid securely shut.
Crucially, this project represents more than just a move away from single-use rigid boxes – it’s a demonstration of the many value-adding benefits that can come when a brand embraces that move wholeheartedly. It’s a standard-bearer for the way packaging can be enhanced when it’s designed with a second life in mind – a life that can continue to bring joy to consumers for generations. This is heritage beauty in the making – designed for today and built for tomorrow.
