Cornish Orchards Celebrates Its Home and Heritage with New Identity by Outlaw

Cornish Orchards, the Cornwall-based cider producer, is celebrating summer with the unveiling of a new visual brand identity by Bristol-based design studio, Outlaw.

Established in 2000, Cornish Orchard’s first apple trees were part of a scheme to save and rejuvenate traditional apple varieties. This passion for sustainable practices and working in harmony with nature have been central to the farm ever since – including in its range of delicious ciders.

Every drop is pressed and blended on the farm using freshly pressed apples. So to emphasise that this is a cider from a real farm the new identity by Outlaw captures real moments from the brand’s home and heritage in every detail.

The new word marque has shorter capital letters inspired by the short bushel apple trees on the farm, while angled crossbars echo the unusual slopes of the orchard – details most consumers will never realise but important to the authenticity of the identity.

The new brand icon is inspired by the swifts and swallows that murmurate around the farm – another design element rooted in reality – with the bird itself also symbolising the natural sense of freedom evoked by Cornwall’s wide open skies.

The word marque and icon are set beneath intricate natural canopies illustrated by London-based illustrator Laura Barrett and inspired by the lush foliage which arches over the entrance to the farm.

Each canopy contains real stories and objects from the farm and the brand’s heritage, including a weather vane that sits atop the barn, beehives and even the head cider-maker’s dog. Combined with colour these canopies make for easy navigation at a distance, while the discoverable details reinforce the authenticity of the brand.

The new identity will be seen across packaging, point of sale, glassware and in-bar collateral.
