Cornershop Design Turns Doors into Distinctive Visual Icons for Pindarie’s Wine Collection

Cornershop Design Turns Doors into Distinctive Visual Icons for Pindarie’s Wine Collection

Knock, knock.
Who’s there?
Pindarie’s ‘Door’ range.

Sorry, not sorry, for starting the article with a bad joke.

Pindarie is a family owned and operated sustainable farm located in Barossa Valley, South Australia. At the heart of the property is the family’s home and the cellar door. These historic buildings, including each of the doors, have been meticulously restored by the owners’ hands. They represent the history of the farm; doors that are now opened to Pindarie’s guests. The doorways symbolise a welcome invitation to the cellar door and restaurant, discovering new varieties, Pindarie’s geographic position as doorway to the Barossa, coming home and a sense of place. A door features as a unique symbol of Pindarie’s brand identity.

Cornershop consulted with Pindarie to reposition their brand over a decade ago. When we were briefed to refresh the packaging for their alternative Mediterranean varieties, building on the ‘door’ theme made strategic sense. An alternative wine range needed bold packaging. Fortunately, Pindarie are not averse to taking risks. They are pioneers and regional leaders on alternative varietals — Pindarie was one of the first vineyards in the Barossa to plant Tempranillo. Inspired by architecture from the Mediterranean origins of each variety, each label design solution features a unique illustration of a door. Each varietal can be distinguished by a vibrant colour; much like the lively wine inside every bottle. At A$28 rrp, the packaging design has opened doors to a younger audience for Pindarie. Pun intended.
