Discover a new world of flavour.
We were engaged to create the brand and packaging for an ever-evolving range of beers that would aim to push the boundaries of traditional brewing styles. The initial range was to include boozy IPAs, a crisp Sour and an innovative Australian Wheat Beer.
With a clear idea of the brewing philosophy, the name ‘Colossal Brewing’ was decided on. The name immediately communicates the vision of big in-your-face flavour with endless possibilities, perfectly in line with the craft beer category and product offering.
A design system was developed including; hierarchy, naming, illustration style and colour to house the universal Colossal idea while being flexible enough to roll out new products when the time comes.
The packaging design features bold graphic illustrations inspired by classic comic styles with limited colour palettes. Each product in the Colossal range has its own unique concept within the spacey, out-of-this-world, colossal universe. Bold typography is used to complement and enhance the accompanying illustrations.
‘Mind Harvest’ for example takes the highly aromatic ‘East Coast’ style of the beer, known for its copious amount of hops, and depicts a supernatural way of cultivating hops through the humanoid’s mind.
When approaching more subtle beer styles such as the Australian wheat beer for ‘Astral Drift’ the concept of floating through space was developed and depicts the humanoids cruising in a bubble. A calming blue was also considered to set the right feel to communicate the soft and pillowy tasting notes.
