We have recently completed a branding project for Cambridge based fermented chilli sauce producer, Orriss & Son. The project covers the identity, e-commerce website, packaging, product design, art direction and photography.
Orriss & Son was founded in November 2020 by chef David Underwood. David has worked in fine-dining restaurants for most of his 20 year career, followed by a stint as co-owner of iconic Cambridge burger restaurant Steak & Honour. His sauces embody this varied experience by offering finely balanced layers of flavour and varying levels of heat across the range.
Our choice in typography reflects this flavour first, heat second approach by combining a bold serif stencil with an ultra modern monospaced typeface. The hand drawn maps highlight the company’s focus on provenance and origin, the label for each sauce uses a unique map linked to the sauce’s name, reinforcing each flavour’s identity.
The colour palette applied to the product labelling embraces the vibrant colours of the sauces, whilst the wider brand palette has been designed to also offer a calmer, sophisticated backdrop that allows the sauces to sing out.
Designed as sauces to use within your cooking, rather than solely as pouring sauces, Orriss & Son wanted to provide recipes for dishes that would really showcase their sauces, as well as inspiring their customers to create something unique at home. We have collated these recipes within a magazine as well as on the website, where detailed step-by-step breakdowns are presented.
