During a student workshop, we were given a seemingly simple task: to create a sauce. While many approached the assignment through flavor research or branding concepts, my own thought process started with something more personal. I immediately recalled how much I love chicken drumsticks with teriyaki sauce. I decided that if I was going to create a product, it had to be something I would genuinely choose for myself — something connected to the flavors and experiences I truly enjoy. That’s when an unexpected idea struck me: what if I combined two of my favorite things—sauce and chicken drumsticks—literally in one object?
Following that impulse, I reached for a piece of clay. Without much planning, my hands instinctively shaped it into a small drumstick. The form emerged naturally—simple, intuitive, and instantly eye-catching. Its iconic silhouette felt both familiar and playful, and in that spontaneous moment the concept for a sauce container shaped like a chicken drumstick was born.
To turn the idea into a cohesive line, I chose three sauces that pair best with chicken and that I personally love: teriyaki, sweet chili, and barbecue. Their connection to the drumstick shape added a layer of logic and storytelling to the design. Each container became not just a holder for sauce but an element that enriches the dining experience—bringing fun, surprise, and a sense of creative intention to the table.
Functionality was just as important as playfulness. The drumstick shape isn’t simply decorative; it’s designed to be ergonomic, comfortable to hold, and easy to use. Its clean, intuitive form draws attention immediately while staying practical and uncomplicated.
A charming detail also emerged during the clay modeling stage. When sketching the word “Chicken” on the clay mock-up, I accidentally forgot to leave space for the letter k. To fix it, I tucked the k inside the C, and the result looked unexpectedly distinctive. What began as a small mistake eventually became a signature element of the visual identity.
What makes this design truly unique is its blend of personal taste, functional thinking, and playful creativity. The container brings together a recognizable food form and an everyday dining ritual, transforming something as ordinary as sauce into a memorable, imaginative experience.
