Cafe Noir’s Retro-Inspired Brand Design

Cafe Noir’s Retro-Inspired Brand Design

Cafe Noir, founded by young, ambitious, and dynamic entrepreneur Amber Morrow, sought our Kathlyn Jarvis Design for a bold and retro-inspired brand identity that would encapsulate her vision for a distinctive and trendy café experience in Lethbridge, Alberta. Our mission was to craft a brand identity that not only captured the essence of Cafe Noir’s chic and modern vibe but also conveyed a sense of sophisticated nostalgia. This was achieved by incorporating high-contrast black and neutral tones, emblematic of the noir aesthetic, which set the stage for a visually striking and memorable café environment.

The project commenced with the creation of a typographic brand identity, which we considered the cornerstone of Cafe Noir’s visual presence. This was complemented by a series of hand-drawn illustrations designed to embody the café’s playful and unique character. Among these, a standout piece is the “diver” illustration, depicting a whimsical diver gracefully plunging into a steaming cup of coffee—a playful nod to the café’s adventurous spirit.

In addition to these elements, we integrated various textures and illustrative details throughout the design. These components were strategically used in the café’s visual materials, such as menus, signage, and promotional items, to create a cohesive look. Moreover, these elements were brought to life as murals within the minimalist and trendy downtown Lethbridge location. The modern brand pattern and the diver girl illustration were prominently featured, adding a vibrant and engaging touch to the café’s interior and ensuring that every visual aspect reinforced the brand’s identity.

The result is a captivating and bold brand identity that perfectly mirrors the founder’s vision of a stylish, retro-inspired café with a distinctive and playful edge. From the moment you step into Cafe Noir, the cohesive brand experience is palpable, creating an inviting atmosphere that reflects both the café’s sophisticated charm and its dynamic, modern character. This comprehensive branding approach ensures that Cafe Noir stands out as a unique and memorable destination in downtown Lethbridge.
