Buckwild Creates a Dynamic Modular Identity for Stom500

Stom500 is an artist, illustrator and muralist based in Strasbourg. He works on numerous projects in France and around the world. For this visual identity, it was necessary to create a modular design based on an original contemporary typeface with slight serifs to give it a slightly vintage look, but above all to echo the artist’s meticulous work. There are two versions of the name: the ‘classic’ version written ‘Stom500’, for everyday use to quickly identify the artist’s name. The originality comes from the placement of the number ‘5’, which is aligned with the height of the lowercase letters rather than the uppercase letters, to provide continuity between the “M” and the ‘5’ and reinforce the notion of the logo as a block. And the ‘long’ version written as ‘Stomcinqcent’, for a different use, which acts as a written signature, like a quality label, and which can be used on collaborations or projects with a more unique character. In both versions, the ‘T’ is cut off on the left to create a diagonal line that continues the ‘S’, and several letters have small angles to break up the rhythm and make the composition more dynamic.
For other purposes, this signature can be broken down to make the text block even more dynamic. In addition, in its classic version, it can be placed within geometric shapes to create a stamp effect. The colour palette consists of a powerful and contemporary ‘Infra red’ to make a striking impression with this new signature, a ‘light grey’ to provide contrast and softness, and a ‘dark blue’ to meet stricter printing constraints or readability requirements. Finally, a set of 50 illustrations completes the visual identity, adding modularity and dynamism. It is a mixture of Easter eggs, private jokes, and references to the artist, his world, and his work. It is a playful way of highlighting various visual elements. They can be used for merchandising and, if necessary, will complement the visual identity by adding a fun touch to the typography. Ultimately, this identity is designed to be in constant motion and to adapt to different needs and media, without ever overshadowing the artist’s work. It has therefore been conceived as a signature and can be adapted in many ways to serve as a veritable graphic playground.
